about jutson marine design

Jutson Marine Design was founded in Sydney Australia in 1986 by Scott Jutson, following his graduation with honours from the Landing School of Design. Prior to that he worked as a professional sailor on both large racing and cruising yachts crisscrossing the Atlantic on a seasonal basis.

The first decade in business was all about performance sailing. From 18ff skiffs to globe girdling single handers, to fully crewed maxi yachts Jutson designs accumulated an enviable record of race wins and course records. Fast cruising yachts and production sailboats were also a major activity and Jutson was awarded three Australian Boat of the Year awards for both monohulls and catamarans.

In the early 90’s Jutson developed, in conjunction with the Australian Maritime College towing tank, a new and definitive hull form specifically suited to long range power catamarans. A number of designs from 45 – 75 foot were produced as custom builds and these vessels cruised extensively in Australian waters.

The Jutson office moved to Vancouver, Canada in 2005 to work more closely with the developing North American market for power catamarans. The semi displacement designs were successfully translated into aluminium to suit the Pacific Northwest market and have seen may variants from pilot boats to survey to passenger transport.

It was also at this time that Jutson began developing a higher speed option based on the asymmetric planing hull which was already the dominant form in Class A offshore racing. Designing both stepped and foil assist options these designs are now in production around the world and are successfully operating in both the commercial and private world.

They are renowned for their fuel efficiency, sea keeping and class leading passenger comfort.

Jutson designs are currently being built on four continents.
